Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Tap-In. What it does, how it works, and what it costs.

General

What is Tap-In?

Tap-In is a free iOS app that blocks the apps you choose during your workout and tracks the session. Your music, fitness apps, texts, and calls stay live. An optional keychain upgrades the block from dismissible to un-cheatable: ending early takes a physical tap, not a thumb tap.

Is the app really free?

Yes. Blocking, session tracking, streaks, and Apple Health sync are free. The keychain and Tap-In Pro are optional upgrades. We will never paywall the blocking itself.

Who is Tap-In for?

Lifters and gym-goers who train consistently, use their phone for music or tracking, and keep losing rest periods to the feed. If you know your phone costs you focus but can't willpower your way out, Tap-In was built for you.

How is Tap-In different from airplane mode or Screen Time?

Airplane mode kills your music streaming and Health syncing. Screen Time dies with one tap of "Ignore Limit." Tap-In blocks exactly the apps you pick, keeps your training tools running, logs the session, and with the keychain, removes the option to cave.

Do I need the keychain to use Tap-In?

No. The free app blocks apps and tracks sessions on its own. Without a keychain, you can end a session from the app, which is an honor-system block. The keychain exists for people who keep caving.

How It Works

How do I start a session?

Open the app, press Start Workout, and pick your workout type. Your chosen apps are blocked and the focus timer starts. If a keychain is synced, pressing Start brings up a scan, and the session begins when you tap your keychain to your phone.

How do I end a session?

Without a keychain, you press End Workout and you're done, an honor-system block. With a keychain synced, pressing End brings up a scan instead, and the session only ends when you physically tap your keychain to your phone. That deliberate motion is the whole point.

Which apps can I block?

Any app on your iPhone, by category or by name: Social, Games, Entertainment, News, whatever pulls you out of the session. You choose the list before you start.

What stays accessible during a session?

Everything you didn't block: Spotify, Apple Music, podcasts, your workout tracker, texts, and phone calls. Emergency calls are never blocked.

Does Tap-In work with Apple Health?

Yes, automatically, on the free app. If you tracked your workout with an Apple Watch, a Garmin, or any fitness app while your Tap-In session was running, Tap-In finds that workout and adds its heart rate and calories to your session summary. No double entries, no manual syncing. And if you didn't track it with anything? Tap-In records the workout for you, so it still shows up in Apple Fitness and counts toward your rings.

How does my session get logged?

Every session saves automatically with duration, workout type, and your focus rating. Your history shows streaks, weekly stats, and trends over time.

What is the focus rating?

After each session you rate your focus from 1 to 5 stars. It's your honest read on how locked in you were, and over time it becomes a trend you can line up against your training.

Keychain

What does the keychain actually do?

It removes the easy way out. Once paired, ending a session early requires physically tapping your keychain to your phone instead of just pressing a button. It doesn't unlock features. It turns a block you can dismiss into a commitment you keep.

Does the keychain need charging or a battery?

No. It's completely passive NFC. You pair it once in Settings and it works forever with no battery, no charging, and no subscription.

What if I lose my keychain?

You won't be locked out. An Emergency Unlock in Settings lets you end a session without the tag, and you can pair a replacement keychain to your account.

Why does the keychain pair to my account?

Your keychain carries a unique encrypted ID that pairs to your account, and the app verifies it on every tap. That's what makes the commitment real: only your keychain ends your session. It also means if you ever lose it, a replacement pairs right to your existing account and history.

Pricing & Shipping

How much does Tap-In cost?

The app is free. The keychain is a one-time $39.99, no subscription attached. Tap-In Pro is an optional subscription that turns your focus and training history into long-term insights; pricing is in the app. Each is independent. Add either, both, or neither.

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship within 3-5 business days to all 50 US states. International shipping isn't available yet.

What's your return policy?

30 days, for any reason. If you don't want it, send it back for a full refund. See our Refund Policy for details.

Compatibility

What iPhone do I need?

Tap-In requires iOS 17.6 or later. The app is free on the App Store.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Tap-In is iOS only today. Android is on the roadmap.

Does it work with Apple Watch?

Yes. Track your workout with your watch like you normally would, and Tap-In automatically pulls its heart rate and calories into your session. Same goes for Garmin or any other tracker connected to your iPhone. A dedicated Apple Watch app is planned.
